WORDS

Many times we play with words just to catch fun and make people laugh but not everyone gets to swallow them easily. In interacting with people, I’ve come to realize that there are different people with different backgrounds, different levels of reasoning, different approaches to jokes, different life styles and different tolerance levels.

Everyone on earth is entitled to an opinion, no one can rob you of that on a normal day. How you decide to present that opinion of yours and what the opinion is all about goes a very long way in making inscriptions on people's hearts. A comedian once said “If we had to recharge our mouths before speaking, a lot of people would talk less.” But HEY!!! Everyone can talk as much and for as long as they want to. How you decide to react to these opinions solely depends on you. It’s just an opinion and every human is entitled to theirs!! No man can define you with his words, that’s your responsibility: You decide to either struggle to beat their opinion of you or just BE YOURSELF!!

Never take rash decisions based on words, the speaker can still walk up to you tomorrow and apologize but will you be able to undo the damage you already meted out in anger? A guy said he’s no longer interested in you and you quickly poison his food or even decide to take your own life (absolute insanity if you ask me). What if while eating the poisoned food, he says he was only trying to see your reaction in a breakup situation? Will you be able to “unpoison” the food? (yeah! Had to create that word…lol)

Let’s quickly take our minds back to a governor who angrily asked a widow to go and die……hmmmm. Did he mean it that way? No, but did he voice it out? Yes!! Taking our minds off the things that later transpired between both parties in an attempt to make up for those words, let’s imagine what would have become of that family if the woman had actually taken her own life out of frustration. What if the press didn’t get a hold of that video clip? What picture of the said governor will be in the minds of the victim, her family, passersby, friends of the family, etc?

Be careful with your words. Once hurtful words are said, they can only be forgiven, not forgotten. Words, once they are printed, have a life of their own. Words can both create and destroy! Most times, hurtful words are not meant to hurt the hearers but to express the pains the speakers/writers are going through. Permit me to ask: What do you gain from hurting others just to prove you’ve been hurt? Nothing!!! You simply just succeed in piercing through their hearts and most times painting a bad and wrong image of you.

Your words can hurt someone more than you intended to and therefore it is important that you take a moment to think before you speak, no matter your mood. Words are expensive; once they are said they cannot be taken back. Choose your words wisely, else they can become costly to you.

Have a blessed day.
